I barely use it as much as I once did, but once old.reddit is gone, so am I.

same, old is all I use, I'm frankly shocked it's still around.

Who is flagging all of the comments? Someone who works for Facebook?

I clicked "hide" on your thread, then visited https://news.ycombinator.com/hidden?id=rationalist and did not see anything. I then clicked the back button and then un-hide.

(I have never "hidden" anything here before.)

If you don't connect, sure. If a visitor connects the TV, all bets are off.

I have had to tell people not to connect the TV. It yearns for release.

The reality is, no one is going to take the companies to court over things like this.

Disney eventually walked it back due to bad PR, but this did happen: https://wdwnt.com/2024/08/disney-dismissal-wrongful-death-la...

That has very little in common with 99.999+% of people who don't experience a tragedy like that and just have their data used against them.

That is the only solution, otherwise there is no guarantee that someone just won't connect the TV to their phone's hotspot.

Obviously that teacher never tried to acces the WhiteHouse by assuming it was a dotcom (a porn site back then, now a crappy election betting site).

It was so long ago (with a different account), that I don't remember.

10 years after I took the ACT, I received a letter from a university that I never went to, saying my SSN was leaked.

WHY THE FUCK ARE THEY HOLDING ON TO THAT 10 YEARS LATER!?!?!?

Of course now I know better than to give out my SSN to anyone who asks for it, but I didn't know that as a teenager.

Until stupid s**t like this becomes illegal, it will just keep continuing.

No one ever measured me for my government ID, they just went with whatever I put on the form.
