A few years ago the Dutch government decided it wanted to make psylocibin mushroom illegal again. Only when they wrote the law they forgot one specific latin name of a mushroom containing psylocibin. Thus, the shops kept selling that specific mushroom and calling them truffles.
I don't know why the shops started calling them truffles. Perhaps it was yet another way to get around the laws of selling mushrooms.
